Overview
The Leveraging Blockchain for Resilient and Sustainable Supply Chains leadership programme demonstrates successful techniques while highlighting potential risks to enlighten participants about this technology.
Distributed ledger technologies, such as blockchain, can help resolve some of the issues arising from challenges facing modern supply chains, exacerbated by pandemics, resource shortages and changing policies and legislation.
Blockchain-based solutions can provide multiple benefits, including the ability to track and trace any product, in any location at any given time, from organic cocoa to engine parts for an aircraft.
The high levels of visibility as well as proof of origin that blockchain solutions can enable is attracting the attention of companies and organisations, as they seek to fully exploit these benefits to optimise their supply chains while meeting legislative, environmental and ethical criteria.

Who is this course for?
This course is aimed at professionals and decision makers working in built environment, financial services, manufacturing and other industries with exposed or at-risk supply chains, which will enable them to design and implement pilot projects for blockchain and related technologies to drive supply chain optimisation and resilience.

What does this course cover?
The Leveraging Blockchain for Resilient and Sustainable Supply Chains leadership programme addresses key themes in two teaching sessions per week during the five-week programme:
- Week one, session one provides a general overview of blockchain and distributed ledger technologies (DLT) and its application within various industries and economics.
- Week one, session two provides a blockchain and DLT market overview, covering current innovations and transformation initiatives being deployed now, and looks into associated threats and opportunities.
- Week two, session one addresses blockchain implications for operations and supply chain management. It covers value chain initiatives and their evaluation, impact on workflows and business processes as well as improvements to processes, transparency and accountability.
- Week two, session two deals with adoption and integration, covering the importance of change management in blockchain and DLT adoption and identifies barriers to adoption and how to overcome these, as well as how to communicate and monitor blockchain and DLT implementation.
- Week three, session one covers end-to-end visibility through a value chain, including understanding and measuring productivity through real-time data analysis and ethical sourcing and logistics.
- Week three, session two looks at the topic of emissions reduction and increasing margins, focusing on the benefits of transitioning to a net zero supply chain as well as managing impacts of real time data to boost margins.
- Week four, session one is focused on resilience and sustainability, examining multi- stakeholder collaboration to create sustainability, fraud prevention and product validation as well as reducing security risks.
- Week four, session two is concerned with IEEE and international standards on blockchain and DLT and looks at how to evaluate compliance of blockchain and DLT initiatives.
- Week five, session one provides delegates with the opportunity to bring together everything they have learned on the course and summarises the biggest takeaways from the programme.
- Week five session two, provides opportunities for presentations and feedback.

By the end of the course delegates will learn how to develop with and implement pilot projects for blockchain and related technologies to drive supply chain optimisation and resilience.

Who teaches this course?
This course is taught by leading blockchain experts:
- Genevieve Levielle, who led AgriLedger’s collaboration with Haiti’s Ministry of Commerce and Industry to deliver a DLT pilot sponsored by the World Bank, allowing Haitian fruit farmers, customers and families to reap the benefits of fairer prices and improved food security. Genevieve is also leading a COVID rapid response project supporting the effective and safe delivery of testing kits by assuring the value chain.
- Dr Jane Thomason, chief inspiration officer at Fintech.TV. She specialises in social impact and digital transformation impacts and advocates for ESG investments in emerging economies and frontier technologies to accelerate achievement of sustainable development goals (SDGs).
- Helen Disney, founder of Unblocked, a hub for blockchain events. Helen has featured on the Women in Fintech Power List 2016 and Financial Technologist Founders 50, and is listed as one of top 100 Most Inspirational Women in Blockchain.
- Dale Perkins McCook, founder of ELAD Tech, a start-up, and has advocated deployment of blockchain solutions in the real estate sector.
- Florian Krueger was the CEO of blockchain project Craft Beer Coin. Florian has over 20 years’ experience of working in fields of big data, IT and the digital space.

How will this course be taught?
The course will be taught entirely online via LSBU’s learning platform.

The course will total approximately 35 hours teaching time, running two 3.5 hour sessions per week, for 5 weeks.
