The Introduction to Python for the Engineering and Construction Industry course aims to give participants who work in, or are affiliated with, the construction and engineering industries an understanding of computational techniques of analysing data.
There are no formal entry requirements for this course. However, Qualified engineers (BEng) working in the construction industry as well as manufacturing, or those within computing science or IT, are likely to gain the most from this course.
This course is aimed at professional engineers working in the construction sector and related industries such as automotive and manufacturing.
Introduction to Python for the Engineering and Construction Industry will focus on Python programming language at a basic level. The course provides a practical introduction to fundamental statistical concepts and tests. Typical topics covered include an introduction to Python and Jupyter Notebook (web-based programming GUI for data science). Participants will also learn basic commands (variables, operators, data structures, functions and flow control). The course will also address sources of datasets and how to clean and import them into Jupyter Notebook, including working with libraries (pandas, numpy, scikit learn), as well as visualisation with matplotlib and seaborn.
On completion of Introduction to Python for the Engineering and Construction Industry, participants will be able to understand computational techniques of analysing data for business intelligence, including predictions and forensic applications.

This two-day course will total approximately 8-hours, and comprises two 4-hour sessions each day.
There is no formal assessment for this course.
There is no formal accreditation for this course. By the end participants will have a comprehensive understanding of Python and its application in construction and engineering sectors.
