The 5D Building Information Modelling (BIM) course is a one day course that aims to extend participants’ knowledge when using latest digital technologies for commercial management. 

There are no formal entry requirements for this course. However, it is aimed at individuals working in commercial management, construction management, building services engineering as well as quantity surveying, or similar fields, and who are familiar with the 5D BIM. 

This course is for practicing quantity surveyors and commercial managers, as well as academics and researchers, including PhD students, working or involved in, cost estimation and commercial management. 

5D Building Information Modelling (BIM) is a one-day course, it is structured to cover several key topics: 

• Principles of BIM and BIM Level 2 
• Dimensions of BIM (3D to 6D) 
• Technologies for 5D BIM (CATO BIMmeasure and CostX) 
• Fundamentals of 5D BIM (virtual valuation, work package planning, quality control, managing project finance with BIM tools, including integrated quantity take-off, generating BOQs through BIM, NRM 2 and BIM)
• Collaboration (CDEs and cloud-based BIM).

On completing the 5D Building Information Modelling (BIM) course participants will be able to develop skills in data analysis and interpretation and demonstrate an ability to measure using 5D BIM. 

Participants will also be able to apply principles of measurement to different types of complex construction activities, demonstrate understanding of 3D BIM models and 4D BIM for integrated quantity take-off (5D BIM), including the generation of BOQs linked to 3D/4D data. They will also be able to appraise (valuate) works and manage finances digitally.

5D Building Information Modelling (BIM) is taught by two experts.

• Dr Zulfikar Adamu is an Associate Professor of Strategic IT in Construction at LSBU, with expertise in several areas, including BIM, construction data analytics, blockchain development, smart buildings and computational modelling and simulation of buildings. He is also a Chartered Building Engineer and a fellow of Chartered Association of Building Engineers (FCABE).
• Dr Karen Blay is a Lecturer in Digital Construction and Quantity Surveying and a CMQS Part A tutor at Loughborough University. Her research interest focuses on themes that include resilience in projects, BIM, as well as information resilience and inclusion in the built environment. Karen previously worked as a quantity surveyor on local and international projects and has also worked with teams in managing information technology systems and construction projects.

There is no formal assessment for this course. 

There is no formal accreditation for this course. By the end participants will have acquired skills in data analysis and interpretation and demonstrate an ability to measure using 5D BIM as well as use other state-of-the-art digital technologies for commercial management.
