The course provides a thorough grounding in innovation management. This is highly relevant in our technology-driven world that is constantly changing – where there are challenges such as realising sustainability and adopting renewable energies as well as opportunities such as the digital transformation of companies. The course will equip participants with the underpinning knowledge, frameworks and tools for the design and management of innovation. The course will have a particular focus on innovation enabled through scientific, technology and engineering breakthroughs.
There are no formal entry requirements for this course, however, it is recommended that those who apply have a general interest in innovation and how science, technology and engineering can be developed, deployed, and managed for different applications.
The course is designed for participants from different backgrounds, including professionals, managers and technical as well as non-technical specialists from different sectors, or any individual who is inquisitive about the process of innovation and how it can be managed as part of technological development in our places of work and our lives in general.
The one-day course runs in the morning and afternoon:
Upon completing the course, participants will have a clear understanding of the types and processes of innovation especially in the context of science, technology and engineering applications. Participants will understand how innovation can be managed from business and project perspectives, which is useful for both entrepreneurs and intrapreneurs. The course includes both taught content combined with short exercises as well as a group-based innovation session in the afternoon where participants will be able to formulate an initial plan for the development and adoption of an emerging technology.
Simon has been a Professor at LSBU since 2018 and previously worked in senior management roles at Imperial College London for 15 years having started his career as a research scientist at the Ministry of Defence. He has held various other appointments, such as serving as the 2019/20 President of the American Society for Engineering Management (ASEM). Throughout his career he has delivered many projects, programmes and corporate initiatives related to the development of science and technology solutions.
The course will be taught entirely online via Microsoft Teams.
This intensive one-day course will begin at 09:00 and finish at 17:00. The course includes a morning session and an afternoon session, each with a 10-minute break, and a 30-minute break at lunchtime.
There is no formal assessment for the course. Each participant that attends the full course will be provided with a certificate of completion.
There is no formal accreditation for this course. By the end of the course, participants will have a comprehensive understanding of innovation management, including how technologies can be developed and adopted for different applications.
