This package includes a ‘FatMax’ test and VO2max test combined.
The Fatmax test is a physiological assessment designed to determine the substrate utilisation during exercise. Rates of energy expended (calories burned) and the fuel substrates used (carbohydrates and fats) are measured during exercise. The results are valuable for those who are interested in optimising fat metabolism during exercise, such as individuals engaged in endurance training or those seeking to improve body composition. It can help identify exercise training zones at which an individual burns the maximum amount of fat as a percentage of total energy expenditure.
The VO2max test will provide you with an assessment of your maximal oxygen uptake (VO2max). This is the gold standard measurement of aerobic fitness. It can be used to compare your aerobic status to normative values for age and gender, as well as sporting populations. Assessment of VO2max is also useful for tracking the impact of training programmes on development of aerobic fitness.
Please note: You will be required to attend the assessment in a ~4 hour (no food, water only) fasted state. In most cases, however, we recommend an 8–12 hour fast provides the most accurate and standardised measurements, minimizing external metabolic influences. Therefore, you may wish to book a morning appointment, following an overnight fast.
