This package includes our standard resting metabolic rate (RMR) assessment along with a FatMax test to evaluate energy expenditure during typical exercise intensities.
Resting Metabolic Rate (RMR) is the baseline energy expenditure necessary for maintaining basic physiological functions, such as breathing, circulation, and cell maintenance, while the body is at rest. RMR can be measured using indirect calorimetry, a method that estimates energy expenditure through gas analysis during rest. Measuring RMR is important for weight management helps establish a baseline for daily caloric requirements. The result of this test allows insight into creating personalised caloric intake recommendations.
During the FatMax test, both caloric burn and fuel utilisation (carbohydrates vs. fats) are measured. These results are particularly useful for individuals looking to optimise fat metabolism, enhance body composition, and refine exercise programming for better performance and efficiency.
Please note: You will be required to attend the assessment in a ~4 hour (no food, water only) fasted state. In most cases, however, we recommend an 8–12 hour fast provides the most accurate and standardised RMR measurement, minimizing external metabolic influences. Therefore, you may wish to book a morning appointment, following an overnight fast.
