This intensive one-day course offers chiropractors and MSK professionals the opportunity to practise and refine their clinical examination skills across a broad range of body systems. Through simulation-based learning and hands-on practical sessions, participants will build confidence in identifying both normal and abnormal clinical findings, while strengthening diagnostic accuracy and clinical reasoning. The course also encourages a more integrated approach to patient assessment and care, grounded in current best practices.

This course is designed for:

• Chiropractors registered in the UK
• Final-year Chiropractic students
• Registered MSK professionals, including Physiotherapists, Osteopaths, and Sports Rehabilitators

The course covers practical examination and clinical assessment of the following systems:

• Cardiovascular system
• Respiratory system
• Abdominal system
• Peripheral vascular system (upper and lower limbs)
• Peripheral neurological system (upper and lower limbs)
• Cranial nerves
• Vital signs

Participants will engage in clinical simulations and hands-on sessions designed to improve diagnostic skills and enhance confidence in evaluating patient presentations. Emphasis is placed on clinical reasoning, identifying abnormalities, and integrating physical examination findings into holistic patient care.

By the end of the course, participants will be able to:

• Enhance their clinical examination skills across key body systems
• Improve diagnostic accuracy through structured assessment and reasoning
• Increase confidence in recognising normal and abnormal findings during patient evaluations
• Strengthen communication across interdisciplinary teams, particularly in relation to medication and referral decisions
• Develop a comprehensive approach to patient care that incorporates broader clinical insights

James Oldham is a Lecturer of Chiropractic at London South Bank University, where he serves as Module Lead for Clinical Anatomy, General Diagnosis, Neuroanatomy & Applied Neurology, and Evidence-Based & Contemporary Practice.

Beyond the university setting, James delivers Emergency First Aid in Football training for the Football Association.

His teaching interests focus on the integration of technology and simulation in healthcare education, with a passion for enhancing clinical preparedness through immersive and innovative learning experiences.
 

This course is delivered through a blended learning format, including:

• Pre-course reading and clinical examination videos (5 hours)
• In-person face-to-face teaching, including practice and simulation (8 hours)
• Post-course reflection (5 hours)

This is a practical, non-assessed course designed for experiential learning.

There is no accreditation for this course. A certificate of attendance can be collected from your LSBU Short Courses account after the course has been completed, which can be used to satisfy GCC requirements.
