The ILM Level 5 Diploma in Coaching & Mentoring is an ideal qualifications for managers with significant responsibility for coaching and mentoring as part of their day-to-day role. They are also designed to develop those planning to move into a development role or start a career as a freelance coach and mentor. Learners will gain a critical understanding of the role and responsibilities of the workplace coach and mentor, deepening their understanding of how coaching and mentoring can impact an organisation.

Participants will develop the ability to assess their own skills, behaviours, and knowledge as a coach and mentor, providing evidence of their development through the qualification. They will gain valuable experience in planning, delivering, and reviewing coaching within their organisation, furthering their own development as a coach and mentor. For the Diploma, this unit is extended to 54 hours of coaching and mentoring, with an added focus on using supervision and reflective review to develop individual practice. The course is delivered through a unique blend of coaching, supervision, and work-based learning, allowing students to set impactful objectives for their coaching practice.

There are no specific entry requirements, but participants are typically practicing or managers or consultants with a coaching or mentoring role, capable of meeting the assessment demands, often evidenced by holding leadership or qualification at level 3 or above.

The ILM Level 5 qualification caters to individuals and managers with significant responsibility for coaching and mentoring within their organisations, or aspiring freelance coaches or mentors.

The primary themes covered in the Diploma programme include:

1. Skills, Principles, and Practice of Effective Coaching and Mentoring: This theme focuses on imparting essential skills, principles, and best practices necessary for effective coaching and mentoring within organizational settings.
2. Undertaking Effective Coaching and Mentoring: This segment entails the practical application of coaching and mentoring techniques, where students are tasked with delivering a minimum of 54 hours of coaching sessions in the capacity of both coach and mentor.
3. Reviewing Your Practice as a Coach and Mentor: Here, participants engage in reflective exercises to evaluate and enhance their coaching and mentoring practices, fostering continuous improvement and professional development in their roles.
4. Professional Practice:  It is expected that you will spend much of your time coaching or mentoring more clients, so that you can bring the total number you have coached to between seven and nine, for a minimum of 54 hours, in accordance with the standard, and recording the outcomes.

All students are provided with study membership of the Institute of Leadership & Management for the duration of their course.
 

Participants will experience substantial growth in their professional skills and expertise. They will gain invaluable experience in providing professional supervision to colleagues, aiding in their development into effective leaders, managers, and practitioners. 

Additionally, participants will develop the necessary skills, knowledge, and behaviours to understand the purpose and principles of effective and ethical professional supervision. They will also learn to establish and maintain effective professional supervision relationships, reflect deeply on their practice, and take responsibility for their own learning and development.

The programme is delivered and assessed by a team of experienced coaches from the Academy of Leadership and Management.

Each unit involves a number of learning activities, inclusive of:

• Online learning
• Monthly coaching/supervision sessions with a highly experienced executive coach/supervisor (a minimum of 54 hours)
• Completion of a series of Reflective Reviews designed to help you reflect on your progress.
• A series of practical activities which guide students through the coaching process from contracting to evaluation.
• Regular feedback from your coach / supervisor and the assessment team

All students are provided with study membership of the Institute of Leadership & Management for the duration of their course.

The programme spans 9-12 months and includes 8 x 1-2-1 tuition sessions, conducted via MS Teams or Zoom.

Participants would be expected to dedicate between 5-8 hours per week undertaking the modules and to complete the assignments.

The assessment comprises practically focused assignments based on the participant's role, organisation, and CPD as a coach.

Participants earn 37 credits upon successful completion of this course.
