Artificial intelligence is rapidly transforming the way organisations operate, make decisions, and deliver services. This introductory course is designed for leaders and decision-makers who want to develop a clear, practical understanding of AI and its strategic potential.

Combining accessible theory with real-world examples, the course explores the core principles of AI, the opportunities and risks associated with adoption, and the challenges organisations face when implementing AI technologies. Participants will learn how to critically assess AI solutions, distinguish genuine business value from industry hype, and identify applications that align with organisational objectives and operational needs.

The course introduces the key concepts required to understand AI in a business and organisational context, including:

• Core principles and terminology in artificial intelligence
• Common business applications of AI
• Risks, limitations, and ethical considerations
• Organisational readiness and adoption strategies
• Approaches to AI transformation and strategic implementation

By the end of the course, participants will:

• Understand the fundamental principles of AI
• Be able to assess opportunities and risks associated with AI adoption
• Develop awareness of strategic implementation approaches
• Identify potential AI applications relevant to their organisation

This course also acts as a primer for a follow-on six-hour AI Strategy Workshop (coming soon).

The course is delivered by LSBU academics and AI specialists from Trilateral Research, bringing together academic insight and applied experience.

Teaching is delivered through a combination of presentations, interactive discussion, practical examples, and collaborative activities designed to encourage engagement and critical reflection.

The course is delivered in person.

This course is designed for leaders, executives, managers, policy-makers, and organisational decision-makers who are exploring the opportunities and implications of AI within their organisation.

There are no formal entry requirements for this course. It is suitable for participants from both technical and non-technical backgrounds who are interested in AI leadership, strategy, and organisational transformation.

The course is delivered as an intensive three-hour programme. Participants may also choose to progress to an optional six-hour follow-on AI Strategy Workshop (coming soon).
