LSBU’s Cancer Biology and Therapy Laboratory offers an equipped, professionally supported environment ideal for researchers, biotechnology companies, diagnostics developers, and industry partners seeking high‑quality lab space in central London.

In addition to hiring the facilities and equipment, we are also able to offer a bespoke drug assaying service for screening of known or unknown compounds against an array of mammalian cancer cell lines.

How does this service work?

The workflow below outlines the key stages of our drug assaying service. If you have any questions or would like to discuss your project in more detail, please contact us — we’d be delighted to arrange a consultation.

1. If the compound is unknown, we can offer an In silico analysis of drug-protein, protein-protein, receptor binding, and other interactions using molecular docking and in silico screening of virtual drug libraries.

2. If the compound is known, we can offer wet lab validation of these results using our SpectraMax multiplate reader (Molecular devices) that can read Absorbance, Fluorescence and Luminescence, and equipped with the capacity to bar-code assay plates and process bar-coded 20 X assay plates at a time.

3. For assay preparation, cell seeding and compound dispensing are performed using our ASSIST PLUS automated liquid handling platform, enabling consistent delivery, reduced variability, and improved experimental reliability.

4. We perform comprehensive analysis of large screening datasets to identify statistically significant hits and promising lead candidates.

5. For selected lead compounds, we offer advanced mechanistic investigations, including apoptosis assays, cell cycle analysis, migration studies, gene editing, transcriptomic and proteomic studies. Additionally, we have the capacity to conduct the studies in 3D culture models.

Current partners and projects
Our laboratory is actively contributing to translational cancer research, including:
- Wet lab Validation of an In silico study in which we demonstrated that Triamterene binds to c-met and VEGFR2 receptors and may inhibit cancer through these pathways. We have assayed Triamterene in comparison to Etoposide using eight different cancer cell lines.
- In silico screening of potential S100A11 inhibitors followed by wet-lab validation using different cancer cell lines.
