The Public Health Practitioner Masterclass Programme is designed to support public health practitioners preparing for UKPHR registration. Delivered by London South Bank University (LSBU), this online training programme provides participants with the knowledge and skills required to meet UKPHR standards, supporting professional development, competency building, and career progression in public health.

The Public Health Education & Training team (PHET) was formally founded in 2022 as a specialist function, supporting the training and professional development of Public Health Practitioners in the UK, with LSBU’s education and training delivery work prior to this occurring for over 20 years. PHET has considerable experience in designing and delivering public health learning programmes, and currently delivers to six local registration schemes across England.
The programme is intended for public health practitioners preparing for UKPHR registration. Eligibility is determined by the local Practitioner Scheme coordinator who has commissioned the programme.

The programme consists of five masterclasses:
Masterclass 1: Ethical and Professional Public Health Practice
Covers ethical considerations, legislation, and professional responsibilities in public health. Participants will learn about collaboration, communication, and the role of the media in shaping public health outcomes.
Masterclass 2: Public Health Policy and Context
Explores the wider determinants of health, health inequalities, and policy-making processes. Practitioners will learn how to evaluate and contribute to policies that improve public health and reduce inequalities.
Masterclass 3: Introduction to Epidemiology Introduces key epidemiological concepts, data analysis methods, and risk assessment techniques. Participants will gain practical skills in interpreting public health data to identify and monitor health inequalities.
Masterclass 4: Evidence for Public Health Focuses on evidence-based decision-making, qualitative and quantitative data interpretation, and critical appraisal. Participants will develop skills in assessing the effectiveness of public health interventions.
Masterclass 5: Planning, Implementing, and Evaluating Public Health Interventions Provides hands-on training in programme planning, stakeholder engagement, quality assurance, and risk management. Participants will learn how to design, implement, and evaluate public health interventions effectively.
Focused on the needs of participants and mapped to UKPHR standards, the Masterclasses are designed to both meet the knowledge specifications required and provide participants the evidence they need for registration on the UKPHR Public Health Practitioner registration scheme.
Each masterclass includes key concepts, case studies, and interactive discussions.

The course is delivered online using Microsoft Teams. Sessions include a mix of presentations, group discussions, case studies, and interactive elements such as polling and breakout rooms. Participants also receive workbooks and additional resources to support their learning.
An evaluation report will also be submitted at the conclusion of the programme.
Classes are limited to 25 learners to ensure a participatory experience.

The programme aligns with UKPHR practitioner registration standards and the Public Health Skills and Knowledge Framework (PHSKF).
Learners will receive certificates that can be used as evidence of knowledge for UKPHR portfolios.
